Introduction to GPT-4
Gpt-4 (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) is the fourth version in the GPT family of natural language processing models developed by OpenAI that rely on powerful neural networks to understand and generate human-like language.
GPT-4 helps software understand the meaning of words and how they are combined in sentences by using a special architecture called a “Transformer.” In layman’s terms, Transformer helps your computer figure out how to put all the words together in the right order to make sense.
This approach was taken because the model has been trained on a huge dataset that includes text from different sources, such as books, articles, and websites. This training enables GPT-4 models to have human-like conversations and produce seemingly meaningful responses. But while the text and responses GPT-4 creates read like humans, it is far from conscious intelligence and far from general artificial intelligence.
How GPT-4 works
GPT-4 works through the same basic process as its predecessor (GPT-3.5), but on a much larger scale, and here are the main ways it works:
Transformer architecture: GPT-4 is built using a design called “Transformer,” and these converters are like super-intelligent machines that understand which words in a sentence are important and how they relate to each other.
Large-scale pre-training: GPT-4 learns from a large number of texts, such as books, websites, and articles, so that it can better understand language patterns, grammar, and facts.
Fine-tuning: After learning from a large amount of text, GPT-4 is trained on specific tasks, such as answering questions or understanding emotions in text, which helps it become better at handling these tasks.
Tokenization: GPT-4 breaks up text into smaller parts called “tokens,” which can be words or parts of words, which helps it process different languages and understand the meaning of words.
Context window: GPT-4 has a limit on how many tokens it can view at once. This limitation helps it understand the relationship between context and words, but it also means it can’t necessarily understand very long sentences or paragraphs.
Probability distribution and sampling: When GPT-4 generates text, it guesses the next word based on how likely the model thinks each word is. It then picks out a word from those guesses enough to create a diverse and interesting sentence.
Fine-grained control: GPT-4 can be coasteed to give a particular type of answer or text by using tricks such as special prompts or adjusting its Settings to help get the results we want from that model.
Difference between ChatGPT and GPT-4
ChatGPT and GPT-4 are not the same thing, ChatGPT is based on the GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 models and is specifically designed for conversational AI applications, such as generating human-like text responses based on user input.
Gpt-4 refers to the current version of the GPT family of large language models – the engine that drives ChatGPT.
ChatGPT provides output that reads more naturally, GPT-4 is more powerful and can handle more text in terms of input/output.
